PetaLinux contains both open source (GPL) and proprietary components. You are free to redistribute, repackage, modify and in any other way use the GPL-licensed components, subject to the conditions of the GPL.
Proprietary components of PetaLinux, including but not limited to scripts, tools, and other source code identified by PetaLogix as proprietary, is protected by international copyright laws and may not be distributed, modified, reverse engineered or used in any manner other than for developing Embedded Linux systems within the PetaLinux environment.

Copying, redistribution and bundling
You may install multiple copies of PetaLinux on a single workstation, or on multiple workstations at your premises or place of work.
You may not use PetaLinux for commercial training purposes. That is, you may not use PetaLinux to run training workshops, seminars or other events, for which payment or material compensation is being made.
You may not bundle or redistribute PetaLinux with 3rd party products, including but not limited to:
- hardware boards
- other software packages
You may not redistribute PetaLinux by means including but not limited to:
- hosting PetaLinux installation images on a website
- writing them to a removeable media and distributing that media
