Supported Platforms for PetaLinux

PetaLinux v1.00 only supports Linux workstation environments.

PetaLinux will operate correctly on almost any modern Linux distribution. The main criteria for choosing a distribution is to ensure that the Xilinx ISE and EDK tools will install and operate correctly (including the JTAG cable drivers).

For this reason, the preferred Linux distributions for PetaLinux are:

  • RedHat Enterprise Linux 4/5 (RHEL 4/5)
  • Community Enterprise Linux 4/5 (CentOS 4/5)

Virtual machine installations

It is possible to use PetaLinux and the Xilinx tools by installing a Linux workstation distribution inside a Virtual Machine environment, such as

  • VMware, or
  • CoLinux
