This section is related to the first PetaLinux beta test release on the 21/09/06.

Objectives

How to Start

Testers can start by choosing one of the tutorials in the Objectives Section and follow the procedures.

Overview

The main objective for PetaLinux is to provide a complete and effective commercial development environment for embedded Linux systems on reconfigurable device. This is the first ever environment of this nature. Many tools and functionalities have been included into PetaLinux to significantly shortens project development cycle. We want to make PetaLinux the default environment for working with embedded Linux on reconfigurable devices.

At this point, we do not think PetaLinux is the best it can be, on the contrary this is the start. There are still many areas and possibilities that we have not explore. Hence, in this beta test we would like to expose the short commings, benefits and other possibilities of PetaLinux. So that we can better improve this product.

The objectives listed in the next sections only provide us with a guide as to how to start testing/using PetaLinux. Ultimately, we want you to use PetaLinux for your own project work so if you are not satisfied you have to feed back this information to us.
